After three nights of idleness (state of happy inaction) on Isla Mucura, we were ready for our next adventure – three nights in Isla Baru. To get there, we took an Uber from Cartagena to our hotel Aura Hotel Baru by Sport Baru, and the driver advised us to say we were his relatives if we were stopped by the police. Apparently, Uber is illegal in the area.
The one-hour drive to the hotel was quite rough, and we felt a bit guilty for putting the driver in such an uncomfortable situation. We offered to walk the last few meters, but he insisted on driving us all the way. We added some extra tip to compensate for the trouble, but we couldn’t help but worry that he had damaged his car during the journey.
Upon arrival, we were immediately struck by the hotel’s beautiful but tiny private beach. While there wasn’t much to do in the immediate area, the hotel did offer a range of water activities, including kayaking, snorkeling, and paddleboarding. We spent much of our time exploring the crystal clear waters and enjoying the colorful sea life.
In the evenings, we retreated to the hotel’s cozy restaurant, where we enjoyed delicious food and cocktails while taking in the stunning sunset views.
Despite the relative isolation of Isla Baru, we found that there was always something to do, whether it was lounging on the beach with a good book, kayaking to the near islet, or simply soaking up the sun and enjoying the peaceful surroundings.
