Dive into the Crystal Magic of Silfra

Disclaimer: we did not dive here, but I wanted to and did extensive research on how to do it. However since we do not have a dry suit certification, we could not do it.

Silfra diving
Watch out - divers on the road

If you’ve got an adventurous spirit and a love for unique experiences, Silfra is the place to be. So grab your fins and let’s plunge into the crystal-clear magic of Silfra.

Picture this: an underwater realm so clear, it’s like flying through liquid glass. Silfra, situated in Thingvellir National Park, is a fissure where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet and part ways. The water here is not just clear; it’s downright magical, boasting visibility that seems to defy the laws of nature. The Silfra Symphony is an underwater ballet of colors and clarity that will leave you in awe.

Now, before you think we’ve gone completely bonkers, let’s talk about the gear. Silfra is not your typical dive spot. The water temperature hovers around 2°C to 4°C (36°F to 39°F), and yes, you read that right and a dry suit is a must to experience Silfra’s underwater wonderland. At least 10 prior logged dives in the dry suites are required to dive here.

Here’s the kicker: as you glide through the Silfra Silica, you’re literally touching two continents simultaneously. The Silfra Fissure is the only place on Earth where you can reach out and feel the gap between the North American and Eurasian plates. Talk about a bucket-list moment!

Book in Advance: Silfra is a very popular spot. Secure your spot well in advance to ensure a date with this underwater marvel.
