Hallgrimskirkja

One Day in Reykjavik: A 24-Hour Adventure in Iceland’s Capital

Waking up to a winter wonderland, we surrendered to the allure of a cold, snowy day. Our retreat of choice was the Sky Lagoon, just 17 minutes from Reykjavik. With temperatures ranging from 38 to 40 degrees, the geothermal oasis offered an enchanting escape, featuring an infinity pool overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and a waterfall amidst gray rocks. At a maximum depth of 120 cm, it was the epitome of relaxation, enhanced by a unique in-pool bar.

Succumbing to the moment, we made a symbolic sacrifice – ordering two beers to savor in the warm embrace of the lagoon. A perfect conclusion to a serene morning.

Returning to Reykjavik, we opted for late breakfast/early lunch snacks before embarking on a city tour. From the iconic Hallgrimskirkja, inspired by Iceland’s lava flows, to the modern Harpa Concert Hall along the waterfront, our day unfolded in contrasts.

Passing through the old harbor and Tjornin Pond, we immersed ourselves in Reykjavik’s timeless charm. Tjornin Pond, a picturesque locale, set the stage for a leisurely walk.

Inspired by The Big Lebowski, it offered American-style food and cocktails, with the signature White Russian. A fitting conclusion, echoing the local sentiment: “If you haven’t been to Lebowski, you haven’t truly been to Reykjavik

Snowy Iceland

Golden Circle in two days

Our Icelandic escapade kicked off at Lava, the car rental hub nestled in the heart of Keflavik Airport. With December’s fleeting daylight, we aimed to seize every moment. The plan? Swiftly grab our Suzuki Vitara at eleven, hit the road, and conquer the Golden Circle in the first two days, reserving the third for Reykjavik.

Despite a minor setback with the car, our spirits remained undeterred. A quick exchange, and we were back on the road, chasing the promise of the Golden Circle’s wonders. Little did we know, Iceland had more surprises in store.
