Day 5: Riga – Rummu – Tallin 330 km/4 hours and half
After breakfast, we were excited, since we knew that this day will be special. We were planning to dive the Rummu Lake. More about the dive you can read in a separate post dedicated to the dive: Discovering the Haunting Beauty of Rummu Lake.: A Submerged Soviet Prison Quarry. The weather was chilly and the water was freezing, but this was once in a lifetime opportunity to dive into the sunken prison. We donned our borrowed wetsuits, full of holes, took a deep breath, and plunged into the crystal-clear waters. The scenery underwater was incredible.
After our two dives, we continued our journey to Tallinn and checked into the really nice Hestia Seaport Hotel, located right next to the ferry port to Helsinki, which we needed to board the next day. But first, we wanted to experience the local cuisine. We were lucky enough to get the last table at the amazing Restoran Rataskaevo, known for its incredible food and impeccable service. We did not have a reservation, because why would we have a reservation in one of the top 10 restaurants out of 900 in Riga, according to Trip Advisor. We indulged in a variety of delicious dishes, each one more mouthwatering than the last. After dinner, there was a long line of people waiting to get a table and we didn’t want to hold the space for too long.
We decided to end our evening at the Hell Hunt bar, which had an incredible selection of more than 130 beers. We sampled a few and made plans for the rest of our journey. It was the perfect end to an incredible day.
Day 6: From Tallin to Imatra 350 km/ 3 hours on the ferry and 3 hours on the road
After a long breakfast, that we could finally afford to have, due to the hotel’s strategic position, we boarded the Eckerö Line ferry from Tallinn to Helsinki. But as soon as we set sail, we realized we were in for a bumpy ride. The sea was rough, with huge waves crashing against the ferry. We tried to enjoy the journey, but I couldn’t help feeling a bit seasick. Despite this, I soldiered on and try to enjoy the beautiful view of the rough sea.
When we arrived in Helsinki, the weather took a turn for the worse. Heavy rain poured down from the sky, drenching everything in its path. Our plans to visit Helsinki and Porvoo were ruined, which was disappointing since I was really looking forward to seeing these beautiful places. However, we didn’t let the rain dampen our spirits. Instead, we decided to drive straight to our next destination: the Imatran Kylpylä Spa Hotel and end the day in a warm sauna and pool.
